Shackles are the primary connecting links in almost every rigging operation, so the right one depends on the load, the connection, and how it will be pulled. We supply shackles across the full working range, from 0.5 tonnes up to 85 tonnes, with screw pin (type A) or safety pin (type E) options, and in bow or dee body shapes to suit the connection.

Our Green Pin shackles are a premium, high-specification option, our economy alloy range offers a lower-cost alternative at similar dimensions, and British Standard shackles cover traditional industrial, construction, and marine mooring work. Grade 6 Galvanised

Grade 6 high-tensile alloy bow and dee shackles with a hot dipped galvanised finish, similar in size to the Green Pin range at a lower cost, conforming generally to US Fed Spec RR-C-271.

British Standard Shackles

BS 3032

Our shackles are made to recognised standards. The Green Pin range meets EN 13889 and US Federal Specification RR-C-271 (type IVA, class 2, grade A), the economy range conforms generally to RR-C-271, and our British Standard shackles are made to BS 3032:1958. Whatever the range, every shackle is rated and marked with its working load limit.

Screw pin shackles (type A) suit connections that are made and broken regularly, while safety pin shackles (type E), secured with a bolt, nut, and split pin, are the choice for long-term or critical connections that must not work loose. Remember that a bow shackle loaded at an angle must be down-rated, so the angle of pull matters as much as the headline capacity.

What is the difference between a bow and a dee shackle?

A bow shackle has a wider, rounded head, which lets it take twin slinging, bulkier fittings, and some angled loading. A dee shackle has a narrower body for straight inline loads. As a rule, use the smallest jaw opening that still allows the connection to articulate properly.

What capacities do your shackles cover?

Our shackles cover working capacities from 0.5 tonnes up to 85 tonnes. Tell us the load and the connection, and we will recommend the type, size, and pin.
